Voters think the Young Lions are destined for the Euro U21 semis

Ahead of their first game against Portugal at this year’s Under-21 European Championship we asked you how you think Gareth’s Southgate’s England side will get on in the Czech Republic.

And we can reveal that the majority of you think that the Young Lions are destined to reach the semi-final stage.

To be more precise, 67 per cent of respondents predict that England will be knocked out in the semis and it’s perhaps easy to see why that proved to be our winner.

During the late 1970s and into the 80s England lost out in the last-four in four of the six tournaments they played in.

And with a potential semi-final meeting with Euro U21 favourites Germany on the horizon the same fate could greet the latest crop of England’s finest youngsters.

Still, some of you were more feeling slightly more optimistic with 20 per cent of those polled plumping for a first tournament victory since the heady days of 1984.

Meanwhile, 13 per cent believe a group stage elimination is in store. None of you voted for England to finish as runners-up.

Southgate’s outfit are 4/1 to lift the trophy this summer and 6/4 to beat the Portuguese this evening and start their latest title tilt with a bang.
