Twitter has its say on Sol Campbell to be next London mayor
Published:Former footballer Sol Campbell has officially announced his intention to run as a Conservative candidate in the 2016 London Mayoral Election.
And the reaction to the ex-Arsenal man’s bid has largely been met with a combination of hostility and ridicule on Twitter.
No surprise there then. Campbell is a 66/1 shot with Ladbrokes to be voted in by the capital city’s residents and finds himself 11th on the list of prospective Tory candidates at odds of 20/1.
Here are just a few of the missiles that have been launched in his direction…

We’re not quite sure if legendary ex-Chelsea and Holland full-back Mario Melchiot is saluting Sol’s political ambitions or having a sly dig.
His hashtag ‘#mmlove’ appears to imply the former but given that he seems to use it to describe almost everything on his timeline we remain a little confused.
Not for the first time, it appears Sol Campbell is having a Mayor.

For some time now it’s been apparent that former Tottenham striker Lineker is relishing the opportunity to engage in a bit of online mischief.
This latest attempt at dry humour cuts pretty deep.
Twitter Trends are 3 things I never expected to see 1. Kate Moss flies EasyJet 2. Sol Campbell is running for mayor 3. @Redknapp is on Twits

This guy might not be famous but we’re not fussy. He’s hit the nail on the head with this observation.
On paper we were looking at a Monday dominated by the recriminations surrounding England’s bore draw with the Republic of Ireland.
Then these three revelations popped up.
Already accused of betraying 1/2 of London, Sol Campbell wants to become the capital’s Mayor https://t.co/RLWxwsDfnZ pic.twitter.com/LDqpHRZ10F

Ouch. And just in case you were in any doubt how the one half of north London still feels about Sol…
Sol Campbell standing for London mayor. The big risk is that he’ll let his term run down and then sign a lucrative deal with Paris.
