How Twitter Reacted to England Women’s historic World Cup win

England Women became the first senior national side to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup since 1990 after seeing off hosts Canada in Vancouver and Social Media was understandably awash with praise.

Two first-half strikes for Mark Sampson’s Lionesses in three madcap minutes did the damage, and although their hosts pegged them back shortly before the break, England held onto set up a last-four date with holders Japan.

England are still the 8/1 outsiders left in the draw which features traditional Women’s powerhouses Germany and USA in the other clash, but for now the girls can rightly soak up some praise for breaking their quarter-finals hoodoo.
