How Twitter reacted to a breathtaking US Open final round
Published:Jordan Spieth really is the golfer of 2015. After blowing the field apart to claim his first Major title at the Masters, the 21-year-old produced a gritty display at the US Open, winning by one shot from Dustin Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen.
On a dramatic final day that started with four men tied for the lead, Johnson stood over an eagle putt on the last green to win the tournament. The three-putt that followed broke both Johnson’s and viewers’ hearts, sending Twitter into overdrive too.
Here’s a look at the best social media musings from a thrilling final round at Chambers Bay:
Before the remarkable late action, Oosthuizen made another charge for the trophy. He followed up a four-under-par third round with 67 on Sunday, but would end up ruing his seven-over 77 on the opening day:

The real talking point came on the final hole though, as Spieth and Johnson became the only two men capable of winning. The momentum swings are captured perfectly in the below video:

Sympathy immediately poured in for Johnson, who must wait longer to win his first Major tournament:
I hate seeing that! Poor @DJohnsonPGA he deserved a chance on the play off tomorrow!

Dustin Johnson just did in front of all of America what pretty much every other person who went golfing today elsewhere did at least once.

I hate it for Dustin Johnson. He’s so ridiculously talented. Maybe his redemption comes at Whistling Straits.

However, there was no denying Spieth’s incredible achievement. He is 6/1 to keep his Major streak alive at The Open:

And finally, while it was Spieth who took the honours at Chambers Bay, our man on Twitter got a little ahead of himself. Maybe it was that £50 bet he had on DJ?
