The striker Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal are strangely ignoring

At the onset of the 2015 summer transfer window it was abundantly clear that many of the Premier League’s top brass shared a collective need to freshen up their strike forces.

Liverpool have been the most decisive in addressing the problem of a pitiable goals return from their centre-forward ensemble, signing Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino, whilst also preparing to finally welcome Divock Origi.

However, even in lieu of these arrivals, rumours persist that another vacancy could present itself if deadwood such as Fabio Borini, Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert are successfully sent down river.

If Brendan Rodgers was still spoiling for a striker, it seems odd that the Northern Irishman wouldn’t be considering Manchester City’s Bosnian frontman Edin Dzeko, who, according to latest reports could be heading to Roma.

This goes for Tottenham – whom Dzeko has made a habit of carving up during his stint in England – north London rivals Arsenal and potentially even Chelsea as well.

The 29-year-old hasn’t always been first-choice at City, but even so, back-up strikers don’t come with much better goals-per-game ratios in the English top flight than the double title winner.

Compared to some of the floundering forwards causing a stink at Anfield, White Hart Lane and the Emirates, in terms of the most important measure of a striker, the former Wolfsburg man is streaks ahead.

Even though Chelsea have apparently ‘seized’ the opportunity to pinch Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao, the stats suggest the Blues may have been able to pinch a far more reliable alternative to Diego Costa and Loic Remy – who is likely to leave.

Dzeko’s potential departure to Italy instead, means a host of Premier League clubs will be missing a trick.
