Spurs eye future Italy No 1 to replace Man Utd-bound Lloris

Mattia Perin is not yet a household name on English shores at least, but the Italy international soon could be if Tottenham manage to secure his services in their bid to replace Hugo Lloris.

As rumours gather pace that Spurs’ own highly-rated number one will soon be on his way to Old Trafford – Ladbrokes now rate this eventuality as a 2/1 chance – the Lilywhites are drawing up contingencies.

Perin currently plies his trade at Genoa in Serie A, where the 22-year-old has earned many plaudits in helping the Rossoblu to post a hugely respectable sixth-place finish.

Should Lloris indeed pack his bags for Manchester, it looks as if the north Londoners could be attaining one of the brightest goalkeeping talents on the continent to fill the void.

With three full seasons in the Italian top flight under his belt already Perin’s involvement at five different youth levels for his country, shows he’s being groomed for greatness.

Indeed the man earmarked as the long-term replacement for legendary World Cup winning stopper Gianluigi Buffon is already knocking on the door for the Azzurri, earning himself a first full cap in a 1-0 friendly win over Albania back in November.

That clean-sheet performance arrived hot on the heels of Perin’s inclusion as the youngest player in Cesare Prandelli’s 23-man squad for Brazil last summer.

Such experience, for a mere puppy in goalkeeping terms, can only stand him in good stead should he opt to make the switch to White Hart Lane.

Perin’s potential arrival does however cast a shadow over Michel Vorm’s chances of earning an upgrade from Lloris’ deputy, and designated cup competition stopper, to a shot at regular Premier League football.

Along with Tottenham fans, the former Swansea keeper will be keeping a keen eye on developments.
