Poll reaction: Fans split but agree on British bout next for Joshua

Published:

Boxing fans are split on who Anthony Joshua should face next after his devastating defeat of Kevin Johnson at the weekend.

Kingpin, who had never been stopped inside the distance before despite meeting both Vitali Klitschko and Tyson Fury, was stopped in the second round by AJ without landing a single meaningful punch on the Brit.

As a result we asked Ladbrokes News readers to have their say on who the Olympic gold medallist should face next and while there were three popular choices undefeated Tyson Fury was the winner with 31 per cent of the votes.

However, with the Mancunian now the mandatory challenger for Wladimir Klitshcko’s WBO title it seems AJ will need to look elsewhere.

That could mean a meeting with Liverpool’s former super heavyweight David Price, who came second in the poll with 29 per cent.

Price was undefeated until his double header with Tony Thomspon but has since picked up the pieces and would provide Joshua with a different challenge given his size.

Next in the voting was Dereck Chisora. The Londoner was stopped in devastating fashion by fellow Brit David Haye but is an experienced operator who can hold his own with the best of them when in the right frame of mind.

Del Boy was also a popular choice among readers, with 28 per cent saying he should be the next man to put AJ’s power to the test.

Completing the vote, but in reality nothing other than also-rans, were Canadian Bermane Stiverne, who lost a title fight to Deontay Wilder earlier this year, and IBF number one rank Vyacheslav Glazkov.

There appears to be little appetite for Joshua to fight either man though with them earning just eight per cent and four per cent of the votes respectively.
