Odds of 200/1 look fairly prohibitive on Miguel-Angel Jimenez breaking his majors duck at the forthcoming 115th US Open at Chambers Bay, but that hasn’t stopped the European Tour website including the seasoned Spaniard in their five fantasy picks.
With Ladbrokes paying out six places on the US Open at 1/4 of the odds, a little each-way money on Jimenez could be well worth a flutter at such a generous price.
As the experts at the European Tour point out, and even our less-esteemed selves here at News.Ladbrokes deciphered a little while back, the links conditions should suit Jimenez’s to a tee.
Jimenez has a calm head, inventiveness, strong previous performances on links courses and the icing on the cake of decent form going for him this season.
The 21-time European Tour winner finished runner-up at this event 15 years ago when the US Open was staged at Chambers Bay’s only other comparable setting of Pebble Beach.
Unfortunately for the Spaniard, Tiger Woods was in the mood that year as the American romped home on the California Coast.
The 51-year-old golfer has two runner-up spots on the European Tour this season where he currently resides ninth in the Race To Dubai standings and up against only two other Seniors in the field, he genuinely looks a steal to shoot lowest of them.
Jimenez is give odds of 5/6 to go round Chambers Bay in fewer shots than reigning senior US Open champion Colin Montgomery and Lee Janzen, a two-time winner of this event in the 90s, who hasn’t appeared at any major since 2008.
Their odds are set at 9/4 and 3/1 respectively, but if Jimenez brings his A game then this shouldn’t be a contest.
