Meet the Scandinavian Pogba Chelsea are expecting to sign

Chelsea may not immediately spring to mind as the obvious club of choice for young stars looking to break into a first team, but that hasn’t stopped the kid dubbed the next Paul Pogba from picking the Londoners as his next destination.

According to local rag GetWestLondon, Joseph Colley, a 16-year-old Swedish talent plying his trade for IF Brommapojkarna in the country’s second division, will be unveiled as a Chelsea player once the summer transfer window opens.

A rangy, athletic central midfielder, Colley has been likened to the Juventus star by his own coach, Brommapojkarna U19 boss Dali Savic:

“I think Joseph is special and has a unique style of playing but if I have to pick one player [to compare him with] I would say Paul Pogba.

“His athleticism and quick technique with ball is similar to Pogba. He can play as a midfielder but is probably going to be excellent as a full-back at senior level,” the coach said.

Manchester United were also reportedly tracking Colley, but the youngster has decided to move to Stamford Bridge instead.

Jose Mourinho hasn’t built a particularly glowing reputation for giving youth a chance in his sides, especially at Chelsea, but may start to change that philosophy next term with Ruben Loftus-Cheek thought to stand a reasonable chance of first-team exposure.

Colley’s age means it is likely to be some time before he is seen in a Premier League encounter, but the signing can be considered no bad thing if his coach’s comparison is accurate.

After cantering to the league title this term, the Blues are Ladbrokes’ 11/8 favourites to win a second consecutive top-flight crown next season.
