Meet the goal-lite Stuttgart teen Spurs want in their attack

After Harry Kane entered the Tottenham fray a quarter of the way through their Premier League campaign and made it impossible to leave him out, Mauricio Pochettino seems convinced that youth is the way to revitalise the remainder of his attack.
Continued mediocrity from Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado means the White Hart Lane boss will be looking to swap both of the bumbling forwards for new recruits this summer.
After news broke that 19-year-old Monaco man Anthony Martial is on the Lilywhites’ radar, the club look to follow that pursuit of the Frenchman by courting Stuttgart teenager Timo Werner.
Also 19, Werner is a forward able to play across the width of the pitch, but has found hitting the back of the net a difficult task during his two full seasons in the Die Roten first team.
In 67 appearances for his boyhood club, the Germany U19 international has managed to score just seven goals, while weighing in with six assists.
Clearly those numbers are not alarming enough to steer Pochettino off course. The Argentine’s noted preference for working with younger players means that the likes of Werner and Martial will be targeted by the north Londoners regardless of their stats.
The former Southampton tactician will instead be looking for potential that he can mould into star quality, as he did with the likes of Jay Rodriguez, Luke Shaw and James Ward-Prowse at St Mary’s last term.
Besides, Adebayor and Soldado combined for an eye-watering three goals in the Premier League last season as Spurs finished fifth and qualified for the Europa League, so the bar for backing up Kane is already set quite low.
Pochettino is 5/1 to go one better in the 2015/16 campaign and guide Spurs to a top-four finish, something they were six points off achieving this season.
