Meet the Brazil ace ready to usurp Rafael at Manchester United

Manchester United’s attempts to replace one Brazilian right back with another have not been killed by Dani Alves’ decision to stay at Barcelona, with Monaco’s Fabinho now linked with a move to Old Trafford.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is preparing a £10m bid for the 21-year-old defender.

Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne remains Van Gaal’s top choice but with Liverpool also interested in the Englishman and Saints playing hardball with their valuation, the United manager is now weighing up other options.

Fabinho started his career in his native Brazil with Rio Ave but was sent to Real Madrid Castilla before making a senior appearance.

Some impressive displays in the Madrid reserve side saw him eventually called up to the Los Blancos first team in 2013 where he set up a goal in a 6-2 victory over Malaga on his debut.

However, with no permanent deal forthcoming from the Bernabeu side he was sent to Monaco where he made 61 loan appearances and forced his way into the international set-up before making a permanent switch to the Ligue 1 outfit.

With the 6ft2in right-back recently penning a deal to tie him to the Stade Louis-II until 2019  Monaco are not likely to let their man go on the cheap and some solid displays for the Selecao in Chile at the Copa America could see that price rise over the coming weeks.

United get their Premier League season underway against Tottenham and the Red Devils are 8/13 favourites to get off to a winning start but with odds of 13/8 on a win to nil it is clear Van Gaal needs to strengthen a defence that leaked almost a goal a game last term.
