Man United could get Real Madrid striker as De Gea makeweight

With every passing day, David De Gea looks more and more likely to depart Manchester United this summer. But as the Spanish goalkeeper creeps ever close to move back to his homeland to Real Madrid, the Red Devils could land themselves a much needed boost in another area of the field as a result.

Reports suggest that Los Blancos will sell the Red Devils Karim Benzema in order to aid their chances of landing United’s number 1, with that arrival considerably aiding Louis Van Gaal in one of his major areas of concern for the summer.

WIth Radamel Falcao cast aside after an underwhelming loan spell at the club and Robin Van Persie’s future anything but certain, the Iron Tulip was looking like having just Wayne Rooney available to call on upfront next season, with James Wilson acting as deputy.

Should Benzema arrive, however, the Dutchman would have another world-class attacking option at his disposal for a campaign in which his side are rated 5/1 title chances by Ladbrokes.

Admittedly the former Bayern Munich coach would prefer to keep De Gea too, but if he can soften the blow of losing the stringy goalkeeper by acquiring a man of Benzema’s talents, then he’d consider that a deal worth doing.
