Liverpool the latest club placed in frame for Man United flop

Published:

As is customary at this time of year, the rumour mill is churning them out at break-neck speed and seldom out of the headlines are Liverpool, whose hunt for a marquee striker has taken a fresh twist.

The Daily Star reports the Reds are considering Radamel Falcao once more as the man who could spearhead their beleaguered strikeforce next season.

Falcao had previously been linked to the Anfield club last summer, eventually choosing Manchester United instead, only for his Old Trafford stay to be marred by injury, poor form and a paltry goals return.

The most indignant moment of his stint came when the Colombian megastar was asked to train with the U21s for a brief period by manager Louis van Gaal.

Yet this hasn’t stopped the former Atletico Madrid assassin from wishing to stay in the Premier League and prove he’s still blessed with the eye for goal that had previously earned him the reputation as one of the planet’s most feared centre-forwards.

If this speculation holds any substance, Liverpool will still have their work cut out should Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s latest comments prove to be more than just flattery.

The Blues are in the market for a striker themselves to replace Didier Drogba and Mourinho’s sweet talking is bound to have turned Falcao’s head.

A move to the more glamorous surroundings of London, as well as the lure of Champions League football and potential titles, are all factors firmly in Chelsea’s favour.

The only trump card the Reds can arguably play is that Falcao would surely be offered the role of guaranteed starter at the apex of a front three.

Kopites won’t be holding their breath anytime soon.
