Everton will be delighted to welcome back Barca boy permanently

Everton’s hopes of banishing the memories of an underwhelming 2014/15 campaign have received a shot in the arm with news of another potential signing.

Tom Cleverley’s decision to snub Aston Villa in favour of a move to Goodison Park will be widely viewed as a positive start to the summer’s transfer business.

And with the paint still drying on news the Manchester United midfielder has opted to continue his career on Merseyside, the Daily Star put former loanee Gerard Deulofeu close to a return as well, only this time permanently for a modest fee of £3m.

The young Spaniard spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Everton from parent club Barcelona and endeared himself to the Goodison faithful with his displays as the campaign wore on.

A fleet-footed attacking midfielder, who can operate across the width of the pitch, Deulofeu’s incisive, jinking runs quickly became a feature of his cameos form the bench, before Roberto Martinez used him more regularly.

However, much to the disappointment of the manager and fans, Deulofeu couldn’t be persuaded to extend his stay and the now 21-year-old headed back to the Camp Nou instead.

Finding a squad stacked full of world-class talent, Deulofeu’s first-team chances remained scarce and the player soon found himself farmed out once more, this time at eventual Europa League champions Sevilla.

Everton have clearly been keeping tabs on the situation and with Deulofeu searching for a new, permanent home he seems content to re-join the Toffees where he made a very positive impact.

Rumours persist that Kevin Mirallas could be one to head out of Goodison Park too, which could pave the way for Deulofeu to claim a regular spot in the side.
