Cherries top list of three clubs suited to a Berbatov return

Published:

Although Monaco looked to be the perfect fit for the languid yet stylish play of Dimitar Berbatov, news of his release from the French club has the Bulgarian cult hero searching for a new home.

According to the 34-year-old a return to the Premier League is high on his list of priorities, as he insists that he still has plenty of time left in the game:

“I spent a long time in England and I keep very good memories. Everyone is watching the English championship… the Premier League, and I’ll be delighted to return,” he said.

With everything looking set fair for a return to the top flight bar an actual club for him to join, news.ladbrokes look to hurry the process along by suggesting three sides that would be lucky to land the Bulgarian:

Bournemouth – 10/11 to be relegated

Eddie Howe’s promoted side have already been linked with a move for Berbatov, as the young manager looks to add a dose of Premier League experience to his Championship-winning squad.

Having played the kind of attractive, attacking football that the former Fulham goalscorer enjoys during their assault on the second tier, it’s clear that Berbatov’s deft touches and creative streak would aid Howe’s philosophy.

Leicester – 4/1 to be relegated

The Foxes clearly have no problem with prolonging the careers of football’s elder statesmen, having seen Argentine midfielder Esteban Cambiasso swoop for the club’s player of the year award. Paul Konchesky, Matthew Upson and Gary Taylor-Fletcher are all fellow 30-something squad members.

Nigel Pearson’s striking options are well stacked, with Jamie Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa, David Nugent and Andrej Kramaric to choose from, but should any of those move on this summer, Berbatov would be a capable replacement.

Swansea – 50/1 to finish in top four

Having sold Wilfried Bony for a handsome sum in January, finding a player to replace the Ivorian’s goals is the south Welsh side’s chief priority this summer.

Although Berbatov wouldn’t necessarily make up for Bony’s output on his own, his goalscoring touch should provide considerable support to Bafetimbi Gomis and any other incoming cavalry at the Liberty Stadium.
