Bournemouth closing in on former Tottenham star

AFC Bournemouth are hoping to add some Premier League experience to their midfield with a bid for former Tottenham Hotspur ace Tom Huddlestone.

According to the Daily Mail, Cherries boss Eddie Howe is looking to capitalise on Hull’s relegation to lure the experienced midfielder to Dean Court in time for the new season.

Huddlestone has just a year remaining on his Tigers contract and after Hull slipped down into the Championship the 28-year-old will be keen to secure a return to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity.

The midfielder has played over 200 Premier League games and would add some steel to the south coast club’s midfield options.

Andrew Surman and Harry Arter were Howe’s preferred pairing in the centre of the park last season but with the former Norwich, Wolves and Southampton man boasting just 36 top flight appearances competition for places is certainly called for.

Bournemouth will not have a clear run at Huddlestone, however, with Hull boss Steve Bruce keen to hang on to his key players and Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood also keen on the one-time England man.

Sherwood is said to be readying a bid of £5.5m for Huddlestone but with more chance of first team action at the Goldsands Howe is hoping to win the race.

Bournemouth have already been busy in the transfer market, securing permanent deals for Artur Boruc, Adam Federici and Josh King, while taking Christian Atsu on loan from Chelsea for the season.

However, despite Howe’s proactive transfer stance, the Cherries are even money second favourites to drop straight back down to the second tier.
