Argentina v Colombia: La Albiceleste to win – but not by much

Published:

After a scare in their opening match – where they blew a two-goal lead to draw with Paraguay –  Argentina have been effective, if unspectacular since.

They rested a few key players in the pedestrian 1-0 win over Jamaica last time out and while Gonzalo Higuain hit the winner against the Reggae Boyz, the sight of Sergio Aguero back in the starting line up will please Argentina manager Gerardo Martino and punters alike.

Aguero has scored six goals in Argentina’s last five games and can be backed at 17/10 to score anytime, 9/2 to strike first and 8/1 to net two or more.

La Albiceleste are priced as the 17/20 favourites for the game, with Los Cafeteros deemed 15/4 underdogs and the draw on at 23/10.

And if you needed any proof that the markets are an accurate reflection here’s The Professor with all the relevant stats.

DID YOU KNOW

Argentina have won seven of their last nine matches.

Argentina have kept a clean sheet in four of their last six games

At least one team has failed to score in seven of Argentina’s last 10 matches

However, while the presence of Aguero and Lionel Messi should be enough to strike fear into any defence in the world, there is plenty to suggest Argentina will be made to work for the win.

In fact, Colombia have kept a clean sheet in nine of their last 13 competitive games and six of their last nine matches have seen under 1.5 goals.

With that in mind the 9/2 on a 1-0 win for Argentina or the 16/1 on the same result with the goal coming courtesy of Aguero are the recommendations here.
