How Twitter reacted to Jamie Vardy’s England call-up

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and QPR striker Charlie Austin were the headline news following the latest England squad announcement.

Roy Hodgson has named his 24-man party to take on the Republic of Ireland and Slovenia next month with Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton another new addition to the Three Lions set-up.

28-year-old Vardy has scored four goals and made eight assists (more on that below) as part of the Foxes’ successful survival bid while Hoops talisman Austin has netted 17 times in his first season at the top level.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the former’s call-up to play for his country.

Opta weren’t prepared to be sniffy about Vardy’s England bow.

And neither was Arsenal legend turned pundit, Ian Wright.

But naturally there were a few of you happy to stick the boot in.

Ultimately though, it’s only Roy’s views that matter.

And finally, Leicester were rightly pretty chuffed too.
