Ruud van Nistelrooy takes Man United poll with landslide victory

Published:

It’s been a day of crushing victories at the polls and our latest Ladbrokes News vote was no exception.

Hot on the heels of the General Election (and the signing of Memphis Depay) we posed our own question to the public: who is Manchester United’s best ever Eredivisie import?

You responded in your droves to award former Red Devils hitman Ruud van Nistelrooy this particular accolade.

He polled a considerable 72 per cent of the vote to take the ballot with a landslide victory over his opponents.

Champions League winning defender Jaap Stam was the nearest challenger with 15 per cent while new boy Depay came third on 7 per cent having yet to pull on a United shirt.

That must be a real sickener for the Lib Dems…sorry, Park Ji Sung and Daley Blind, who both languished well behind their rivals.

The result is hardly controversial though.

Van Nistelrooy banged in 150 goals in 219 games for the Old Trafford outfit and established himself as a key figure of the early-mid noughties side that claimed one Premier League title, an FA Cup and a League Cup.

And it’s good news for new recruit Depay too. Having agreed to move to Manchester in the summer it appears that the 21-year-old already has an expectant fan club.
