Price Boost: Falcao posied to bounce back against Baggies

Published:

To ask if Radamel Falcao has underwhelmed since arriving at Old Trafford is a bit like querying if bears like to defecate in wooded areas – pretty bleedin’ obvious.

The Colombian – on loan from Monaco – has netted just four times in 26 appearances for the Red Devils, drawing blanks against the likes of QPR, Yeovil and Cambridge along the way.

United have until the end of the season to decide on whether or not to make the striker’s loan deal a permanent switch for an additional £43m and on the evidence provided they do well to stay clear.

However, with captain Wayne Rooney injured – possibly for the remainder of the season – a window of opportunity has arisen for the South American striker – starting with the visit of West Brom this weekend.

Whether Falcao believes he can do enough over the remaining games to convince Louis van Gaal he is worthy of a place in next year’s United squad or not is irrelevant really.

Monaco seem to be keen to ship him out and if United don’t want him either Falcao needs to use the coming four games as a shop window to drum up interest.

With this in mind the forward will be going all out to add to his United tally against the Baggies and with Ladbrokes boosting the odds on the once-deadly striker to score first he could provide an unlikely source of glory for a number of savvy punters.

Ladbrokes has thrown the 4/1 on Falcao to open the scoring at Old Trafford this weekend out of the window in favour of a much more tempting 5/1.

He may not have scored first in any games this season but his contribution has still been a huge help to United’s cause.

His strikes against Everton, Aston Villa and Stoke – all either winners or equalisers – turned what would have been a one-point haul into five points and have helped make Champions league football look nailed on for the Red Devils next season.

He may not be there to enjoy that return, but with Ladbrokes boosting odds there’s still time to back Falcao to end the current campaign on a high.
