Poll: Who would you most like to see back in an England shirt?

Published:

In case you’ve been living under the proverbial rock during the last 24 hours there has been quite a furore brewing surrounding Kevin Pietersen’s England future (or apparent lackthereof).

Despite a career-best knock of 326 not out for Surrey against Leicestershire yesterday it’s becoming increasing clear that Director of Cricket Andrew Strauss is not prepared to consider a recall for the controversial batsman.

We’ll wait for Strauss to deliver his final verdict.

In the meantime, we’re asking you to vote for who you’d love to see back in an England shirt.

Here are the three candidates:

Kevin Pietersen

Love him or loathe him, you cannot deny Pietersen’s talent. KP continues to divide opinion but as he’s shown recently there can be few question marks over his potential to deliver.

Since being axed from the England set-up in 2014 the South African-born talisman has made very public moves to try and build bridges with the ECB – including turning down a big payday in the IPL for the more genteel setting of Division Two County Cricket.

Bur try as he might it appears that there are certain rifts that cannot be healed.

John Terry

For the opening line please see above. At 34-years-old the Chelsea ‘captain, leader, legend’ has shown few signs of succumbing to an end-of-career malaise.

Voted into this season’s PFA Team of the Year the ex-England skipper has been a typically commanding presence for the Blues and has even chipped in with eight goals during the current campaign.

The issues surrounding his retirement from international football in 2012 remain heated.

But with regards to footballing reasons alone there has been plenty of clamour for a Terry return since then.

Steffon Armitage

French exile Armitage has shone for Toulon but current rules banning the selection of players based overseas mean the 29-year-old is unlikely to feature in Stuart Lancaster’s World Cup plans.

Unfair? The policy has the split the rugby community but now it’s your turn to have the casting vote…
