Poll reaction: Bilic is fans’ choice to replace Big Sam at West Ham

Published:

Slaven Bilic is the man most people want to see take the helm at Upton Park next season, according to a recent poll.

In the wake of the Irons not renewing the contract of Sam Allardyce Ladbrokes News asked readers to vote for the man they think is best placed to take the club forward and outgoing Besiktas boss Bilic was the clear winner with 36 per cent of the votes.

A player for the Hammers in the mid-late 90s the former Croatia boss is well-liked by the Boleyn faithful but with a disappointing spell at Lokomotiv Moscow on his CV there are still question marks over his ability to outperform Big Sam.

Second in the voting, with 20 per cent of the total, was Sevilla boss Unai Emery. Back-to-back fifth place finishes in La Liga and a chance to land this year’s Europa league have sent the 43-year-old’s stock rising, but with AC Milan also in the hunt West Ham seems an unlikely destination.

Completing the top three with 18 per cent of the votes was Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa who flirted with league title success this season and ultimately guided the club to a respectable fourth-place finish.

David Moyes’ La Liga rebuilding campaign also looks to have paid off with a healthy 12 per cent of voters saying he is the right man to make the Irons worthy of their glitzy new Olympic Stadium home.

Former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo was next with 11 per cent and while he may not be the fans’ favourite Ladbrokes has slashed his odds to 6/1 after the Italian announced his resignation from Bundesliga outfit Schalke earlier today.

And bringing up the rear with just three per cent was the ‘Wally with the Brolly’ Steve McClaren. Recently sacked by Derby the former England boss is available but as the 1/3 favourite for the Newcastle job maybe West Ham fans already know where his future lies.
