Poll: Is Gomis’ goal celebration among the most creative out there?

The art of celebrating a goal with a bit of creativity is on the wane with most strikers preferring an Alan Shearer-style salute to the crowd over anything more ambitious.

Even those who have tried to break the mould of late have offered pretty shambolic results – we’re looking at the half-hearted hand heart from Gareth Bale and Robbie Keane’s roly-poly and gun fingers here – so it was a pleasure to see Bafetimbi Gomis having some fun with it over the weekend.

The Swansea ace fired his side level with Manchester City and after what appeared to be failed knee-slide failed the striker pulled out an old favourite and went into his panther routine – although to us it looked more like that girl from The Ring!

It brought a smile to the face of those working in the Ladbrokes News office but it was quickly disregarded as an also ran in the all-time hall of fame.

For those who haven’t seen it here it is in all its gory glory.

Francesco Totti – Roma v Lazio

With time no longer on his side Roma legend Totti wants to savour every last drop of his playing days.

And when he scored in the derby with Lazio earlier this year the 38-year-old wasted no time in ensuring he could capture the moment to keep forever and duly took a selfie with the Roma crowd roaring in the background.

But for their elaborate celebrations it’s fair to assume few people outside of Iceland would have heard of Stjarnan FC.

Their previous efforts include a diving routine, a human toilet and a Rambo-style shooting spree but it is this fishing expedition that earned them worldwide fame and takes its rightful place on our list.

Jimmy Bullard – Hull v Manchester City

Former Hull boss Phil Brown is famous for dishing out a half-time rollicking to his then Tigers squad after an abject performance saw them 4-0 down after 45-minutes and 5-1 losers at full time.

More famous though is Jimmy Bullard’s recreation of that moment when his penalty earned a 1-1 draw with the Citizens almost a year later.

Alessandro Florenzi – Roma v Cagliari

Roma again and while it might be a tad of a stereotype to call Italian footballers an empassioned, loving bunch Florenzi helped live up to that billing with this heartfelt celebration of his strike in a 2-0 win over Cagliari.

Giovane Elber – Bayern Munich v Wolsfburg

When you scored as many goals for Bayern as Elber did (138) you run out of ways to celebrate so big props to the Brazilian for using props – and in this case an advertsing carpet – to mark this strike in a 1999 win over Wolfsburg.
