Newcastle United closing in on deal for Barcelona striker

Highly-rated Barcelona B youngster Sandro Ramirez could be heading to the Premier League amid reports claiming Newcastle United have tied up a deal for the 19-year-old striker.

The latest product from the Catalan club’s La Masia academy, ‘Sandro’ has featured seven times for the Barcelona first-team to date.

Those appearances included a memorable goal against Ajax in the group phase of this season’s Champions League, while the Spaniard has also found the net for Barca in the Copa del Rey this term.

According to a report in Marca, Sandro will spend a season on loan at Newcastle United in a bid to gain more first team experience.

Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu previously benefitted from a temporary stint in the English top-flight with Everton last season and the Catalan club will be hoping their latest youth star can reap similar benefits.

Newcastle, meanwhile, will be hoping Sandro can enjoy a similar level of success at the club to that of new boy Ayoze Perez.

The 21-year-old arrived at St James’ Park last summer from Tenerife for €2m and has scored seven goals in the Premier League for the Magpies this term.

Like Ayoze, Sandro hails from the Canary Islands and that link could yet play an important part in the Spaniard’s potential move and integration into the Newcastle United squad.

To date, Sandro has represented Spain at five different levels of youth football.

The Spaniard has spent five years with Barcelona and will be keen to impress in the north east and cement his future at the Nou Camp.
