To the huge relief of all football fans, the transfer saga that threatened to rumble on for the entire summer has come to an end.

Memphis Depay, courted by Liverpool, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain for many months, will be a Manchester United player next season after the Red Devils and PSV agreed a fee, thought to be around £22m, for the winger.

Subject to a medical, Depay will be reunited with Louis van Gaal, the man who handed him his international debut, next term.

The move continues the shift in spending policy by the Old Trafford club, as they seek to return to the Premier League’s summit at the earliest opportunity.

A product of PSV’s youth system, Depay will arrive in England on the back of an extremely fruitful Eredivisie campaign, where he has scored 21 goals in 28 games thus far.

Such form should warrant that the 21-year-old walks straight into the Manchester United starting lineup next season, but in what position?
