Man United on verge of losing their number one to Real Madrid

Published:

Spanish newspaper Marca say Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has agreed personal terms with Real Madrid, making the widely anticipated move to the Bernabeu this summer inevitable.

No statement has been released by either club as yet but the report in Spain says De Gea will earn around £4m a year after tax in the Spanish capital.

It’s the news that all United fans have been dreading, but half-expecting, as the speculation has intensified over the last few months of the season.

Although no club has verified the agreement, various news sources worldwide have taken to social media to report the news.

It seems the only stumbling block left is the fee. This will come as a bitter blow to United who have become so reliant on the heroics performed by their best goalkeeper in more than a decade.

Shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year and the undisputed Player of the Year at Manchester United, De Gea’s cat-like reflexes have seen the Spaniard earn his side numerous points this season.

If it hadn’t been for the gloveman, who was much maligned early in his Old Trafford career, then a return to the top four might never have happened this term.

As it is, the pull of playing for the club he supported as a boy and arguably the biggest in the world looks to have proven too strong for De Gea.

It now looks like United’s number one will play his penultimate game for the club against Arsenal in Sunday’s televised showdown, where De Gea could yet have a huge say on whether or not the Red Devils can achieve automatic Champions League qualification.

Expect tears at Old Trafford whatever the result.
