Liverpool heading back to AC Milan to solve striker issues

The last time Liverpool did a deal with AC Milan to sign an in-form striker with discipline issues, they spent £16m on Mario Balotelli and received four goals in 26 all-competition appearances in return.
Those diminishing figures, along with a season that failed to match the Premier League silver medal of last term, have sent Brendan Rodgers back out on the hunt for a saviour in front of goal.
He seems to have forgotten to remove the San Siro’s address in his SatNav though, as reports emerge that the Merseyside club are heading back to Italy to lodge a bid for Frenchman Jeremy Menez.
With 16 goals to his name and pot-kettle accusations of ill-discipline from former i Rossoneri midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, the Reds could be signing themselves up to another questionably-suited front man this summer.
According to his brother-turned-agent, Kevin, Menez has not had any contact with Liverpool or Monaco, the other rumoured interested party over a switch, but did not rule out his sibling leaving the San Siro ahead of next season.
The former Paris Saint-Germain striker has enjoyed the best season of his career in Italy, scoring his 16 Serie A goals in 32 appearances for the club and bettering his previous best career tally by nine.
Understandably then, the former Sochaux youth will be hot property once the summer transfer window opens, but the Reds must be mindful of taking costly punts on unproven striking talents.
Although Menez has enjoyed a strong campaign, he has never produced those kind of numbers before and isn’t likely to at Anfield unless he is played regularly from the start of the season.
With Daniel Sturridge hoping for a healthier campaign next season and Divock Origi finally arriving, there is certainly no guarantee Menez will be a fixture in the starting XI on Merseyside.
