Labour leadership candidates meet their Liverpool counterparts

Two British institutions which are intrinsically linked to the colour red are looking for new leadership.
For Labour, a stinging general election loss has left the party facing a crisis of identity requiring a new face to drag the opposition back towards the light by the time the electorate have their say again.
For Liverpool FC, the end of an era is upon them as club legend Steven Gerrard heads for LA and in the process his captain’s armband needs a new sleeve to reside on.
Drawing on these parallel situations at the respective Reds, we’ve mocked up a mirror-image comparison between the two sets of candidates and apologies go in advance for the three females involved….
Next Labour Leader: Andy Burnham 10/11 – Next Liverpool captain: Jordan Henderson 1/16
Apart from being the two strong favourites these two are obvious frontrunners who’ve received public backing from the moment their predecessors announced they would be stepping down. Both men have held high office before; Health Secretary and England U21 Captain.
Next Labour Leader: Liz Kendall 5/2 – Next Liverpool captain: Adam Lallana 25/1
Although Lallana held the Southampton armband before securing a big-money move to Anfield, he’s still the new kid on the block at Liverpool and would be a surprise choice. Meanwhile Kendall is also fresh-faced in political terms compared to the likes of former Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Yvette Cooper.
Next Labour Leader: Yvette Cooper 7/2 – Next Liverpool captain: Martin Skrtel 7/1
As mentioned above, Cooper is from the old guard and has been a serious player in the higher echelons of the party for some time. However, like Skrtel, who is by far the longest-serving candidate, this probably works against them as fresh faces will probably be preferred.
