Kamara: ‘Surely Newcastle players will show enough pride’

Survival Sunday is nearly upon us with Newcastle and Hull in the firing line on the final day of the Premier League season.

The permutations are fairly simple. If the Magpies beat West Ham they’ll be safe.

However, defeat or even a draw wouldn’t be enough to preserve their top-flight status should Steve Bruce’s Tigers beat Manchester United.

Do the north-east outfit have the stomach for the fight?

We caught up with Chris Kamara to get his thoughts ahead of the season finale.

“The plusses outweigh the minuses for Newcastle this weekend. They’ve got the crowd behind them. And surely the players will have enough pride to play one decent game to keep them up,” he said.

“The fans will forget everything that’s gone on in the past now and just be focussed on the task at hand. They’ll light up St. James’ Park. They just want to see their team stay up.”

“There are a few factors at play. Big Sam going back is one. He’ll have his team pumped up. But to be honest West Ham’s season ended weeks ago. “

The hosts are currently priced as the 4/1 outsiders to go down this weekend with Hull heavy favourites at 1/7 to fall into the second tier.

“If you’re in Steve Bruce’s position the only thing you can do is prepare your team as best you can,” Kammy added.

“They have to win and they need to go for it. Manchester United’s season is over so it’ll be interesting to see how Louis van Gaal approaches this. He might want to have a look at one or two players.

“Hull can do it. This is not like a normal league game, this is a one-off cup game. On their day and at their ground they can beat anybody.”
