OFFALY to beat Longford – LEINSTER SFC
Longford have been afforded the opportunity to exact revenge for their 13-point defeat to Offaly in the pair’s recent Division 4 League final.
That was a somewhat surprising result given the fact that they’d won the previous three meetings between the two.
But we’re siding with Offaly again, albeit they may not triumph by a similar margin.
LAOIS to beat Carlow – LEINSTER SFC
It’s not hard to see why Laois are considered heavy favourites against a Carlow outfit who’ve been operating in the bottom division for many years.
Although the visitors have themselves struggled of late – narrowly avoiding relegation from a strong Division 2 this year – they’ve been handed some timely injury news.
Carlow’s first choice goalkeeper is suspended while impressive Laois pairing Donie Kingston and Ross Munnelly will be expected to do plenty of damage.
WESTMEATH to beat Louth – LEINSTER SFC
Both of these sides suffered relegation from their respective divisions this term and wholesale changes make this a tricky tie to predict.
Louth this fixture by five points last year but they’ve lost a host of experienced players since then, most notably star midfielder Paddy Keenan and full forward Shane Lennon.
That, and their abysmal defensive record, looks set to give Westmeath the edge. In John Heslin the visitors boast a player capable of exploiting any weaknesses.
DONEGAL to beat Tyrone – ULSTER SFC
Arguably the biggest clash of the weekend, this Ulster derby will be riveting viewing.
Reigning province champions Donegal have won the last three Championship meetings between the two and beat them easily in the league this year.
To further compound Tyrone’s misery they were relegated from Division 1 this year and they’ll be all too aware of the fearsome physical challenge that awaits them.
