Farquar, Frankie, Fabre and Fintry favoured on 1000 Guineas day

The second Classic in as many days is upon us in the shape of the 1000 Guineas, made all the more competitive by the defection of several fancied runners, including the Aidan O’Brien trained pair Found and Together Forever.

Elsewhere on the card there are a brace of valuable handicaps, as well as Group 2 and Listed contests to get the teeth into.
Below are a trio of selections for the 1000 Guineas undercard all linked uncannily by the letter F.
Hoof-rattling fast ground is in prospect and that makes the return of Harry Dunlop’s Viking Storm after a year and a half off the track all the more interesting.
Rated 106 as recently as March 2013, the seven year old runs off a mark of just 90 at HQ, with Paul Hanagan a heartening jockey booking.
The former champion pilot has struck twice from five rides in races for horses aged four or older for Dunlop over the past five years.
Viking Storm has claimed the laurels three times from nine career starts on ground described as good to firm, including his most recent win when rated 94, and could spring a shock if geared up for his return.
However, taking his wellbeing on trust may not be for everyone and FARQUAR, the field’s only course and distance winner, makes plenty of appeal nearer the head of the market.
He took a hot handicap worth double this one in October last year, beating the re-opposing Adventure Seeker by a head.
The Peter Chapple-Hyam trained colt will be aided and abetted by one of the most in-form pilots out there in Frankie Dettori, who had struck with nine of his last 25 runners at the time of writing.
Andre Fabre’s FINTRY is 5lbs clear of all her foes bar Coronation Stakes winner Rizeena on ratings and she is taken to enhance her trainer’s formidable record at Newmarket.
The french maestro has booted in four winners from a select band of ten runners at the course over the past five years, suggesting that there is little cause for concern that she could be ring-rusty on her seasonal reappearance.
Likewise Rizeena’s more proven ability on good-to-firm ground (four wins in nine runs, whereas Fintry has yet to compete on the likely going). The Clive Brittain yard, from which the former hails, have failed to send out a winner from 12 attempts in the last fortnight.
Ralph Beckett took this wide-open looking contest with subsequent Oaks winner Talent in 2014 and has another daughter of New Approach and Prowess out this year in the shape of FORTE.
The fact that she contested a Group 1 against Guineas types Together Forever and Lucida, as well as the re-opposing Winters Moon on her final juvenile start suggests she is regarded more highly than her illustrious stablemate was when bagging this 12 months ago.
