Dante Festival: Smart Camacho hope tipped in York’s lucky last

As the sun sets on a highly indicative Dante Festival meeting at York, we’ve had a long, hard look at the Friday’s card and unearthed a real gem of a bet in the last.
North Yorkshire-based trainer Julie Camacho only has one runner at the meeting this year, 9/1 shot Swaheen in the 1m4f Constant Security Stakes handicap at 17.20, and he gets today’s NAP.
The three-year-old had a poor juvenile campaign under Michael Stoute’s watch, never finishing better than third in three muddling races, but since going north to Camacho’s yard Swaheen has been a horse reborn.
Jockey Connor Beasley got a fine tune out of the Lawman gelding, something neither Ryan Moore nor Shane Kelly managed last term, when cajoling Swaheen to a 16/1 victory over 1m1f at Redcar last month, when just 2lbs off top weight.
The way he flashed home from half a furlong out suggests a few further won’t do any harm, and as the Racing Post’s Diomed state in their race synopsis, quite a few of these haven’t run this far under rules before.
Favourite Dawn Missile, for Moore and trainer Willie Haggas, has only ever run once, winning an unspectacular maiden on the All-Weather at Chelmsford in mid-April, and has to give weight to six of the 12-runner field, including 5lbs to Swaheen.
As does Racing Post pick Peterhouse at 9/1. Jason Ward’s charge is going for a three-timer, but again, one of those victories was on the AW, and both over 1m2f.
If paper’s ratings are anything to go by, Mark Johnstone’s Yorkidding looks about on par with Camacho’s inmate, with an RPR of 90, the highest in the field, to Swaheen’s 89, and 1lb more on her back.
Yorkidding is only 9/2 though, and failed last time out by three quarters of a length when 15/8 at Nottingham, so Swaheen gets the nod at 9s.
