Chelsea boss planning shock double-swoop for Man City pair

The Champagne bottles may only be just getting cleared away after Chelsea were confirmed winners of the Premier League this season, but the celebrations hasn’t halted Jose Mourinho’s plans to add to his squad this summer.

The Portuguese manager is reportedly keen to take two players from title-rivals Manchester City, with reserve striker Edin Dzeko and nomadic midfielder Yaya Toure the reported targets.

Dealings between two close competitors are rare in the Premier League, so whether the Blues are able to secure the two signatures remains questionable, but City’s expected overhaul could play into the Londoners’ hands.

The country widely expects the Citizens, who endured a disappointing title defence this season, to shuffle their pack this summer, bringing in younger, fresher legs and clearing out a number of older squad members.

Dzeko, who has scored just six goals in 32 games for the Etihad club this season, is largely used as a rotation player by Manuel Pellegrini and can’t expect to warrant many more starts should he swap a light blue jersey for a darker shade.

However, with Didier Drogba unlikely to remain at the club beyond the season, Mourinho needs another striker to play backup to Diego Costa, alongside Loic Remy.

Dzeko has shown a talent for scoring important goals off the bench in the past and may decide to continue in the role in the capital.

The Bosnian’s teammate and sometime skipper has been the subject of exit rumours for quite a while in Manchester, with the Ivorian’s agent quick to declare that his player is far from happy at the club.

Paris Saint-Germain have long been linked with signing the former Barcelona man, but Mourinho may view the 32-year-old as a key goalscoring option playing behind the striker should he manage to coax Toure down south.

Chelsea are 19/20 to beat West Brom on Monday night.
