Bet conservative with Benteke settling David Cameron derby

Thanks to David Cameron’s “brain-fade” during a pre-election speech in south London, the football and political world are now slightly unsure which claret and blue team he actually supports.

The Prime Minister has long been considered to be among Aston Villa’s collection of celebrity supporters, but after name-dropping West Ham during the aforementioned speech, doubts have been raised over his allegiances.

So, what better way to spend the day after being elected for a second term running Britain than spending a day at Villa Park watching his two favourite teams in opposition? This match should really be billed as the David Cameron derby moving forward.

Villa arrive on the back of three victories in their last four and their one defeat was a slightly unfortunate one at Manchester City, when robbed of a blatant late penalty and then watching the hosts go straight up the other end and gain a winner of their own.

It’s just two wins in nine for the Hammers as their chances of qualifying for the Europa League now rest on topping the Premier League’s Fair Play table, rather than through their league position.

Sam Allardyce’s men haven’t won on the road in the top flight since early December and have lost three of their last four away games.

Villa haven’t been odds-on to win too many home matches this season and for good reason as no team in the Premier League have collected fewer points on home soil.

However, the improvement under Tim Sherwood following the dark days of Paul Lambert is considerable and this makes 10/11 good value on a Villa victory.

Christian Benteke has been handed the Premier League Player of the Month Award on account of eight goals in his last six appearances. His only blank came in the draw with Man City.

Those fancying the Villa triumph may as well back the wincast of Sherwood’s men taking the three points in a game where the Belgian scores, which is a far more enticing 11/5.

Alternatively, with Cameron preparing for another term at number 10, Villa’s number 10 Andreas Weimann may prove a popular anytime goalscorer option at 17/10.
