3 is the magic number at Spanish GP for world champ Hamilton

Published:

Only some brilliant Ferrari tactics in the searing heat of Malaysia have prevented Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton from completing a clean sweep of Grand Prix wins in 2015 heading to race number five in Spain.

The formula one world champion and his lightning quick Silver Arrow have been imperious, leading to four consecutive pole positions for the Brit and victories in Australia, China and Bahrain.

Even more impressively still, the Mercedes driver has turned in two perfect weekend performances, landing the ‘hat-trick’, the holy trilogy of pole, race win and the fastest recorded lap.

After a three-week break since Bahrain, the clear championship leader heads to the familiar surroundings of Barcelona’s Circuit de Cataluña as the man in everyone’s sights and subsequently the clear 1/2 favourite for the chequered flag.

The Spanish Grand Prix has held mixed fortunes for the Brit over the years, with a first race win in eight attempts only arriving last season.

However, having taken two poles in his last three visits, he’s certainly got to grips with the track used in winter testing and odds as short as 2/5 say he’ll bag a fifth consecutive start from the front of the grid.

The big question being; will Hamilton make it a hat-trick of hat-tricks for the season already at 9/4 i in Spain, thereby joining the likes of Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikonnen as other drivers to do just that?
