Top pundit believes Liverpool fans will still be behind Sterling

Raheem Sterling’s contract tug-of-war with Liverpool continues to generate headlines with the 20-year-old recently forced into telling fans that he isn’t a ‘money-grabber’.

The England star’s refusal to commit his future to the Anfield club, despite the lure of a £100,000 per week new deal, has attracted criticism from the terraces and has sparked fears that Reds supporters could turn against their talented attacker.

However, Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara is taking a different view on the situation.

Kammy told Ladbrokes News: “I don’t think Raheem Sterling has lost the fans. Liverpool are still in a position to grab a Champions League spot. The fans won’t want to upset him at this stage of the season.”

Sterling has publicly refused to discuss a new contract until the summer leading to speculation that he could well leave the club despite his current deal still having another two years to run.

And in terms of his options they’re unlikely to be limited with Ladbrokes making Manchester City the 3/1 favourites to secure his signature.

“The world is his oyster in terms of his future. Does he let his contract run down or decide he wants to move?” Kammy added.

“Let’s not forget he hasn’t said categorically that he won’t stay.

“He’s just exploring all his options and he has every right to do that. This is not something new. We’re in a different world now compared to the old days.

“Players can do what they want and they don’t have to be dictated to by clubs.

“The negative is that this situation is probably causing Brendan Rodgers more problems than he would have liked at this stage of the season. “

Liverpool take on Arsenal at the Emirates this Saturday lunchtime in a crucial encounter that could well decide their Champions League fate.

Ladbrokes make the Reds the 16/5 underdogs for victory.
