The stats that say PSG are better off not chasing Spurs stopper

Everyone has heard it all before. If Spurs don’t qualify for the Champions League this season then Hugo Lloris will frogmarch a host of stars out of the club.
Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen, possibly Harry Kane are all supposedly studying at the same school of thought as the French goalkeeper, holding the opinion that they are of Champions League quality and are unwilling to wait for it at White Hart Lane.
Certainly qualification looks beyond the north Londoners this term, with the league their only avenue and Ladbrokes rating them a distant 12/1 chance to pip their competitors to that post.
Wise to the way Lloris’ mind is working, Paris Saint-Germain are lurking with intent to snap up the former Lyon man this summer.
The Ligue 1 champions reportedly want rid of their current keeper Salvatore Sirigu, presumably on the basis that he isn’t high profile enough for a side that once boasted David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the same field.
However, a delve into the data reveals that it is the Italian who is performing better of the pair this term.
Sirigu has more clean sheets to his name, less goals conceded and more saves-per-goal than the Spurs man this season, registering 11, 24 and 2.29 in those respective categories to Lloris’ 6, 42 and 1.88.
An obvious riposte to these numbers is that the French league is barely fit enough to polish the Premier League’s boots in terms of quality, but further number-digging only reflects better on PSG’s current keeper.
Sirigu has been a better distributor than Lloris this season, with an accuracy mark of 77 percent compared to the Frenchman’s 66 percent.
He has also made no more defensive errors than the Lilywhite stand-in captain but, crucially, has made none that have led to goals, while Lloris has made one.
