Poll Reaction: Daly guilty of golf’s worst fashion crimes

Published:

Rickie Fowler may have golf fans adjusting their TV sets with his bright orange attire but the American is nowhere near being the sport’s worst fashion offender.

That is according to Ladbrokes News’ latest poll which saw American legend John Daly voted the worst dressed golfer by some distance.

The Lion, famed for his outrageous attire took a staggering 33 per cent of the votes for a long list of fashion crimes including stars, stripes, zig-zags, animal prints and a wide array of geometric shapes all seen on his golf trousers over the years.

Boo Weekley was second with 24 per cent of the votes and while his garish hunting-inspired outfits are the result of a sponsorship deal anyone who wears camouflage when teeing off was always going to pick up a healthy proportion of the vote.

Britain’s own Ian Poulter rounded out the top three with 19 per cent of the votes and while he sometimes pulls off his garish chequered trouser designs, his love of the Union Jack was deemed a faux pas too far.

Fowler came in an unexpected fourth with just 14 per cent of the votes, meaning golf fans will forgive just about anything if there is a sentimental story behind it.

The 26-year-old’s decision to wear bright orange on the final day of tournaments in order to honour Oklahoma State University has obviously earned him a pass from golf’s fashion police.

The American didn’t get away as cleanly as Swedish star Jesper Parnevik, however, with the pork-pie hat fan escaping the poll with 10 per cent of the votes despite his love of dodgy head gear!
