Poll: Who can be the catalyst for a Man United title charge?

Published:

After a victory against the blue half of Manchester, Louis van Gaal’s men may well be dreaming of another Premier League title being added to the Old Trafford trophy cabinet in the next couple of years.

Their slow start this season under the Dutchman may have cost them that opportunity this time round, with Chelsea eight points clear with a game in hand, but their progress in the latter stages has been telling.

Van Gaal may be targeting a top three finish this season, but a title challenge must be on the agenda for 2015-16.

But who do United need to bring in this summer to be best placed to reclaim top spot again?

Vote now in our latest poll on which rumoured target is the man needed to get the Red Devils to their 14th Premier League title.

Gareth Bale

When he’s not getting his car vandalised for apparently disappointing performances in Madrid, the former Tottenham man is capable of leaving Crisitiano Ronaldo in his shadow.

However with the Welshman going through a troubled patch in the Spanish capital, Real may be open to a sale, that is, if Man Utd stump up something close to the £86m they paid for the winger or offer the sought after David de Gea in part exchange.

Edinson Cavani

Radamel Falcao was supposed to be the South American striker that added that Latin flair to the United front-line, but that evidently wasn’t to be.

Now United have been linked with Uruguayan, Edinson Cavani, with the PSG hitman bagging … goals this season. Could he be another that flourishes in Ligue 1 but fails to cut it in the Premier League?

Thiago Silva

A team-mate of Cavani at PSG, Silva would offer some much needed stability in the Old Trafford back-line.

He may not have been able to have stop the German rout in the World Cup, but the Brazil captain would surely have stopped his country’s defeat being so embarrassing had he been on the pitch.

Dani Alves

Continually linked with a move to the Premier League, the Barcelona man is out of contract at the end of the season, so would be far less a risk than the others.

With the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Luke Shaw perhaps being that step below world class, adding someone of Alves’ calibre in the back-line would be a no brainer, but could he be the difference?

No one

As mentioned, were it not for the slow start that saw Van Gaal’s men pick up just 13 points from the first available 30, they would be right up there.

Could it be that all they need is a summer to regroup and plan a 2015-16 assault that would be enough to see them lift the trophy for the first time in three years?

How do you think United need to strengthen in the summer? Vote now!
