Pirlo pips Liverpool favourite in ‘Coolest man in Football’ poll

It’s official: Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo is the coolest man in football today with the Italian coming out on top in the Ladbrokes News poll.

Quizzed on who they thought was the coolest from a selection of the biggest names in the game, it was the 35-year-old who came out on top with 34 per cent of the overall vote.

He pushed Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso into second, with the Spaniard claiming a solid 26 per cent stake on the poll.

Next in the voting came Everton’s very own mod, Leighton Baines, with the trendy Toffees man taking 15 per cent of the votes.

Pep Guardiola may be a tiny bit disappointed by his own showing in the vote with the Bayern coach claiming 10 per cent, with his claims for coolness likely hindered by the midweek Champions League trouser-splitting incident against Porto.

David Beckham, meanwhile, managed to dodge the wooden spoon with eight per cent of the votes while his former PSG teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic is evidently not as popular as previously thought with a seven per cent share.

Due to face AS Monaco is the second-leg of their Champions League quarter-final, Juventus will be hoping Pirlo can be at his cool, calm best when they go in search of what would be a 12th victory from visits to France in Europe.
