Newcastle wipe floor with Sunderland in Mix n Match XI

Published:

The Tyne-Wear derby has been an unhappy occasion for Newcastle fans recently. All of the last four editions of the north east’s fiercest rivalry have gone Sunderland’s way, leaving Magpies fans gagging for victory when they travel to the Stadium of Light.

If our Mix and Match graphic to celebrate a renewal of the rivalries is anything to go by, then the game is set fair to swing back Newcastle’s way, at odds of 21/10.

Just three Black Cats are rated good enough to start for our combined XI of the two sides, indicating that Sunderland are worth swerving for the win at 7/5.

Tim Krul easily ousts former back up keepers Costel Pantilimon and Vito Mannone in the net, having strung together a number of seasons of solid play while his competitors have done little more than watch from the pine at Manchester City and Arsenal respectively.

The back four is split evenly, with Daryl Janmaat and Fabricio Coloccini representing the St James’ Park outfit and Patrick van Aanholt and John O’Shea doing the Mackems proud.

From here on out things become very black and white, with the midfield consisting of Ivory Coast hard man Cheick Tiote and Jack Colback forming two of the three legs of our central tripod, with free-kick specialist Sebastian Larsson completing Sunderland’s involvement.

It’s an all-Newcastle affair up top as the highest scorer, with some comfort, of either side takes a central role.

Papiss Cisse’s 11 league goals make him the standout selection to lead the line, with Sammy Ameobi – a recent regular under John Carver – on one flank and Spanish import Ayoze Perez adopting the other.
