Former Millwall star predicts bright future under Neil Harris

Millwall face a mammoth task to retain their Championship status. But despite their slim chances of staying in the second-tier one former player predicts better times ahead should the club stick by caretaker manager Neil Harris.
Matt Lawrence made over 200 league appearances for the Lions alongside Harris and believes he’s the perfect candidate to revive the club’s fortunes.
He told Ladbrokes News: “Millwall’s chances of staying up are very slim, even with a points deduction for Rotherham.
“Neil Harris was given too much to do when he came in. The team were too downhearted and despondent with the previous manager and that affected the fans as well.
“If anyone can do it then it’s Neil but they’ve got tough games coming up against Derby and Wolves.”
The south London club occupy the last relegation place in the Championship and sit a point behind Rotherham who have a game in hand.
However, while their fight against relegation may ultimately be in vain Lawrence is quick to acknowledge Harris’ impact since taking charge in March.
“In a word he’s brought happiness” he added.
The team look like they’re enjoying playing again. Neil understands Millwall and the ethos of the club and he has a great bond with the fans.
“That’s been instilled into the players in a very short space of time.
“I’d be very surprised if he’s not given the job for next season. He’s done well without being spectacular.
“Ultimately I think Millwall will go down this season but I can see Neil making a good fist of it in League One and I think the effect he’s already had on the team can last.
“As soon as one game finishes, Neil and assistant David Livermore are already looking ahead to the next and watching videos of their future opponents. They’re very dedicated.
“Can he be a success long-term? Yes, he can, as long as he’s given the right kind of support from the powers above.”
