Meet the 3 brand new strikers Newcastle are targeting this summer

Mike Ashley hasn’t been known for expansive spending during his time as Newcastle’s owner, but that could all be about to change as the Sports Direct businessman looks to pre-empt a transfer fee hike next summer.

According to reports, Ashley expects sums in the transfer market to soar once the new TV rights deal comes into effect, and is looking to nip in with a raft of signings on the “cheap” before that happens.

The Sunday Express expects Ashley to task his chief scout, Graham Carr, with finding three new strikers for the club once the current campaign comes to a close, with three men heavily linked with St James’ Park already:

Aleksandar Mitrovic – Anderlecht

Ashley is thought to be willing to break his own transfer record – the £12m spent on Remy Cabella – in order to land the 20-year-old Serb, who has been at Anderlecht since a 2013 move from Partizan Belgrade.

Since arriving in Belgium the 11-cap international has been a great success, scoring 20 goals in all competitions for the club so far this term, on the back of 16 in 39 games in his debut season.

Should his scoring exploits continue in the Premier League, the £15m Newcastle reportedly want to spend on Mitrovic could easily double should a big side come in for him down the line.

Danny Ings – Burnley

Another young striker for the future, 22-year-old Ings is certainly a player who could make an impact in the north east right away.

The former Bournemouth man has taken to the Premier League with ease this season, notching nine goals for struggling Burnley and earning links with clubs all over the continent as a result.

Should the Turf Moor side fail to survive their relegation scrap, it looks a certainty that Sean Dyche will look to cash in on the striker, who has scored four times in nine games for England U21s.

Saido Berahino – West Bromwich Albion

Adding all three of these strikers would certainly give Newcastle a youthful feel up front, but could also stand to make the club a lot of money in the future if they continue to develop.

21-year-old Berahino has already shown substantial improvement in his two seasons in the top flight, following up his five-goal effort of last term with 12 this time around.

Like Ings, talk has been rife that the Burundi-born livewire will be moving on at the end of the season and the player himself has made no secret of his desire to play at a higher level. Whether that level is Newcastle remains to be seen.
