Manchester City ahead of Arsenal in battle to land Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp’s  next club looks likely to be Manchester City rather than Arsenal, according to the latest odds from Ladbrokes.

The bookmaker has the Citizens at 4/1 to land the German, who is set to announce his departure from Borussia Dortmund come the end of the season.

And despite the presence of Arsene Wenger in the Gunners dugout for the foreseeable future, news of a potential move to the Etihad will still represent a blow to fans of the north London club.

Many Gooners had identified Klopp as the ideal successor to the Frenchman and the perfect manager to continue Wenger’s footballing philosophy at the Emirates.

But with Arsenal now back at 8/1 to land the German, it would appear it’s City who are the front-runners to land the two-time Bundesliga winner and Champions League semi-finalist.

Manuel Pellegrini has appeared to be on borrowed time at the club for several months now with a recent slump, which has seen the Blues lose six of their last eight games, all but sealing his fate.

City’s biggest competition to land Klopp could come from Spain however, with both Barcelona and Real Madrid back at 6/1 to secure the services of the Dortmund man.

The latter of the two, in particular, could pose a noticeable threat with current Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti rumoured to be on his way out of the Bernabeu.

Such a scenario could at least clear the way for City to secure the services of the three-time Champions League-winning Italian coach.

Ancelotti has experience in the Premier League too, having previously guided Chelsea to a Premier League and FA Cup double.

For now though, it’s Klopp who looks the most likely appointment at Eastlands.
