Where Man Utd’s latest £150m ‘revamp’ money will go this summer

Published:

It seems like only eight months ago since Manchester United splurged the best part of £150m trying to fix their squad, because it was, but the tabloids have been out in force claiming Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal will be handed around the same figure to ‘revamp’ the Red Devils this summer.

After such a monster 2014 outlay, there’s plenty of noise regarding who United might buy before September. Here are our best guesses:

Mats Hummels (£30m)

There have also been reports that the 26-year-old has informed Die Mannschaft teammates he is heading to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign, after seven seasons with Borussia Dortmund, and the Express recently claimed that United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had gained the same assurance from Hummels.

Dani Alves (Free)

There hasn’t been such strong talk since, with the likes of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain also thought to be interested, but United look favourites to secure the Barcelona right-back’s signature when his Camp Nou contract runs out at the end of the season.

Paul Pogba (£50m)

Pogba left the Theatre of Dreams under a cloud two-and-a-half years ago, after Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t show enough confidence in his clear abilities.

With the great man gone, a return may be on the cards, with United and Chelsea both thought to be preparing bids.

Memphis Depay(£20m)

Depay has bagged 19 goals in 24 Eredivisie appearances for PSV this term and knows Van Gaal well, having turned out four times for Netherlands under the Iron Tulip at the last World Cup.

Edinson Cavani (£50m)

Cavani clearly doesn’t like being shoved out wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the Parc des Princes, and with United one of the few sides able to afford him that currently play two up top, this switch can’t be ruled out.
