All Liverpool fans need to know about linked Nigerian Ronaldo

The more pessimistic Liverpool fans on the planet may think it’ll take an uncovering of a Cristiano Ronaldo-like talent to return their club to glory, after following up last season’s Premier League title heartache with a failed tilt at the top four this term.

Luckily for those glass-half-empty supporters, the Reds scouts look to have delivered. Recent reports suggest the Merseysiders will win a hard-fought battle with Tottenham to land the services of Ronaldo’s Nigerian impersonator: 19-year-old Moses Simon.

A product of Ajax’s famed youth system, the boy from Jos bounced back from his inability to break into the Dutch giants’ first team by compiling an impressive set of stats during his young career.

After being released from the Amsterdam Arena, Simon moved to Ajax’s Slovakian partner club AS Trencin on a three-year contract in 2013.

The winger made an immediate impact when scoring a hat-trick off the right flank in his home debut for the club and went on to record figures of 17 goals and 10 assists in his 38 all-competition appearances for the Super League outfit.

His displays, which included Europa League outings, caught the eye of Belgium side AAA Gent, who swooped to secure the youngster’s services in January of this year, again on a three-year deal.

Since signing for the Buffalo’s Simon has taken his goalscoring exploits up a notch, rippling the net an eye-catching six times in nine Jupiler League assignments.

Overall the two-capped international is operating at a strike rate of a goal every other game for Gent, which has been enough to convince Brendan Rodgers to register an interest.

The Northern Irishman is in desperate need of a goal source having seen Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert fail to deliver on that front and Daniel Sturridge struggling through injury.

Liverpool are 1/1 to beat Hull in the top-flight next time out.
