Ladbrokes counts down top five IPL catches as tournament returns

The cricket extravaganza that is the Indian Premier League returns this week and is sure to once again display some of the brightest batting and bowling talent around.

They are not the only two disciplines to have shined in the IPL over the years though and ahead of this year’s tournament Ladbrokes News has trawled through the archives to find five of the best catches from the competition’s history.

Sourav Ganguly  – Kolkata Knight Riders

Dada is widely considered to be one of the best batsmen of all time but he flexed his fielding muscles and rolled back the years with this impressively acrobatic take against the Mumbai Indians back in 2010.

Ricky Ponting – Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians’ captain and Australia legend Ricky Ponting stole the show two years ago with this stunning aerial catch to send Delhi Daredevils’ opener Unmukt Chand back to the stands,

Keiron Polard – Mumbai Indians

Even for the giant West Indian – who stands at 6ft5in – this was an impressive catch. Pollard’s skills here stopped the legendary MS Dhoni is his tracks to halt what would have been a sensational turnaround for the Chennai Super Kings!

Chris Lynn – Kolkata Knight Riders

With Royal Challengers Bagalore needing just six runs to win AB de Villers aims a big strike to deep mid wicket. Lynn appears to have misjudged the flight of the ball but correct himself and pulls off one of the most stunning catches in history to help KKR cement the win.

AB de Villiers – Delhi Daredevils

De Villiers was on the right end of a stunning catch this time round to thwart the Challengers. A one handed, full-stretch catch and the awareness to avoid going over the boundary see the South African safely onto our list.
