IPL Week 2 Notes: Marsh guides KXIP to Super Over glory

1) AB De Villiers’ superhuman streak continues
The South African skipper walked in to bat with his Royal Challengers Bangalore chums struggling at 62-3 in pursuit of the Mumbai Indians’ 209.
What followed was yet another display of De Villiers’ ability to dispatch the ball to all parts, including the M Chinnaswamy Stadium roof, with the minimum of effort. His innings of 41 off 11 balls set a record for the highest strike rate in IPL history for any effort of at least 40 runs:

2) Harbhajan reminds everyone of his class
In the same game, veteran offspinner Harbhajan Singh took his 100th IPL wicket, while playing in his 100th game in the competition.
He is only the third man to claim a century of victims in the tournament, behind Lasith Malinga and Amit Mishra, and has generally shone with both bat and ball this season.
The 34-year-old hasn’t represented his country in any form since 2013, but spoke about his desire of a recall after his landmark appearance.

3) Pollard’s silent protest
In what turned out to be an eventful match, Mumbai’s Kieron Pollard caught the spotlight for antics of a different nature:

4) Super Over splendour
The league-leading Rajasthan Royals, a 7/2 shot to win the title, lost their unbeaten tag when Kings XI Punjab tied their total of 191 before beating them in the Super Over eliminator.

Kings XI’s Australian import Shaun Marsh was the hero, scoring 65 from 40 balls during the run chase and 12 from four in the tie-breaker to get his side over the line.
