How many goals will burnt out Spurs star manage next season?

Harry Kane’s enchanted transition from third-choice Tottenham striker to 30-goal-a-season star may be complete, but the expectations on the nation’s latest great footballing hope do not end there.

Naturally after a season of high-impact, Kane is in high demand for both club and country. Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t been brave enough to select a Premier League team without the 21-year-old since handing him his first start against Stoke in November.

Likewise, Roy Hodgson is facing increasing pressure to make the Spurs man a focal point of his national side, while U21 boss Gareth Southgate correctly expects the right to pick the striker for this summer’s European Championships, having had access to Kane throughout qualifying.

With his limbs being tugged in all manner of directions by the three parties, the Walthamstow native doesn’t have much scope to rest between now and the start of next season.

It’s reasonable to expect Kane to start all of Spurs’ remaining five league games. That would take his total appearance tally for the Lilywhites this season to 51, while there are post-season friendlies in Malaysia and Australia pencilled in soon afterwards.

Having reportedly told the FA that he is keen to feature in the U21 tournament in Czech Republic in order to “finish the job”, Kane could be tied up in the competition until as late as June 30 depending on how England fare.

That gives the striker little respite before pre-season training begins, making a repeat success in front of goal next term hard to predict.

Indeed, Ladbrokes have set the over-under line at 16.5 for Kane’s Premier League tally next term, with the 4/6 about the unders looking particularly appealing considering how jaded the fan-favourite is likely to be.
