Bradford could spring a surprise, says Jamie Peacock

Prior to the draw for the fifth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Jamie Peacock issued a warning to any Super League club that has to play Bradford Bulls.

Hull KR have been dealt that exact hand and if Peacock’s feelings are anything to go by the visitors will be in for a tough time at Odsal on Sunday.

In an exclusive interview with Ladbrokes News, the Leeds star and three-time winner of the competition explained that his own experience against Leigh last year showed that anyone who takes a top Championship side lightly does so at their own peril.

“Having played against the Miners last year and being given a scare I think Bradford  have got a good chance of going well in the competition and I’d predict some upsets for anyone who might come up against either of those sides,” he said.

As a club close to his heart, Peacock, who will hang up his boots at the end of the current campaign, revealed that a meeting between his current club and the Bulls at Wembley would be the ideal scenario.

“A Leeds v Bradford final would be amazing for me. The money the Bulls would get from that would be unbelievable and help them in their build to regain top flight status,” he added.

Peacock’s sentiments were echoed by fellow former Bradford star Leon Pryce, with the Hull FC utility back also suggesting the Bulls will be a dominant force in the Championship this term.

“I think it’s a rebuilding phase for them having dropped down a division but they have invested well so hopefully they still be dominant down there,” he explained.

And with the new structure to the Rugby League ladder introduced this term, Pryce believes promotion for Bradford could be easier than it may have been in previous campaigns.

“You would think it makes it slightly easier as if they are at the top they will be playing sides near the bottom of the Super League and therefore potentially out of form.”
